I’m feeling a bit stuck with the bigger Margate beach scenes (by that I mean I don’t have an overwhelming desire to attack them (bring them on). Whilst looking after the kids I’ve switched to smaller still lives which I haven\t touched in years. Although they are currently featured on my site as positional, these aren’t truly in my current style – they are merely sketches. Infarct I was so pleased with how these were brought on quickly. I selfishly worked on these for about 2 hours whilst the kids were left to unwind – this being the first day of the holidays where we haven’t had to rush out the door at 8.30 for an activity. Get up a couple of hours before the kids to start painting and today I was in slow mode (actually busy painting mode) until about 10am. I really beefed up the colours in these work and began to whittle some of the edges. They are so much easier than my figure and other world. Each will need another session but I’m pleased with how today went. I had planned to go to mums for the day but as my painting was going so well I decided to stay put.I wasn’t in the mood to travel. I took the kids to the beach to keep them occupied in the morning.
I also began to clear space in my second studio and finally pulled aside 3 large acrylic floral paintings to work on. I often turn to acrylics one month prior to an Open Studio event – I feel I need a higher deadline to benefit from greater spontaneity and knowing that with acrylics its possible to finish them on the morning of a show.
