2020 entry, themed on ‘people and places’ in progress
I’ve had the vision for this piece since Summer 2019. Some of my first tests began in January but weren’t too successful. When re-attempting to create the frame and contents for the next piece I began to lay the plastic objects within the tray different. Part of the problem with the first test piece was the jumble of colours which made layering too complicated. In that next piece I began to separate out colours (using mosaic knowledge). Without perspex for the front of that panel, my friend Tony helped to recycle an old piece of artwork (actually it was someone else’s painting on a wood box frame which created a perfect case. He then cut to size an old piece of perspex I had lying around. I’ve been applying a similar technique with objects and intact I have used fewer objects. I’ve also incorporated photographic copy elements to further support with creating an image that reads. I’ve just created a thin colour wash for the sea and now I’m beginning to paint in figures in my characteristic style. I’m loving that the whole piece has a retro and museum/time capsule feel which supports the messaging. I’m now looking to get the pieces encased a bit more purposeful too.
