I’m now starting to paint in oils over sketched out acrylic painted scenes of Margate. The figures are becoming looser and more stylised – something I’m keen to retain. Having mocked up some paintings of different scales and thought about how different works sit alongside each other, I’m realising that I perhaps could focus on fewer oils so that more time can be spent on experimental works. I’m seeing that the larger works such as the diptex below could be balanced with smaller postcard sized works on plastic lids or experimental works – the critical aim or what I’m really wanting to do at this point is to experiment and to continue to mock-up but with sculptural works alongside this collection and to experiment with new combined sculptural mediums.
